DNS stands for Domain Name System. Think of it as the phonebook of the internet. Every time you visit a website, your browser needs to translate the website’s user-friendly name (like www.google.com) into a numerical IP address that computers use to communicate with each other. Domain Name Systems do this translation work behind the scenes.
Why Consider Switching to Cloudflare Servers?
1. Improved Speed
Cloudflare is famous for having one of the fastest DNS services globally. It has a large, worldwide network of servers, meaning you’ll typically connect quicker to the sites you visit. This can noticeably enhance your browsing speed and overall internet experience.

Note: These instructions outline how to switch your DNS settings on one individual machine. If you want to switch the DNS settings for all devices on your network carry out the steps below. Exact settings will vary depending on your equipment and network configuration
Switching Your DNS Settings for Your Entire Home Network Using Your Router
Switching DNS on your router ensures all devices connected to your network use Cloudflare’s DNS:
1. Log into your router's admin interface:
Typically, you’ll enter your router’s IP address (such as 192.168.1.1 or 10.0.0.1) into your web browser and log in with your admin credentials. If you are unsure of the admin credentials look for a sticker on your router or within your router’s documentation. If all else fails you can Google the default admin credentials for some commercial home network routers.
2. Find DNS settings:
These settings are generally located under sections labeled with headings such as “Internet Settings,” “WAN Setup,” or “Network Settings.”
3. Update DNS Entries
You may have to switch from Automatic to Manual entry for DNS server addresses.
Enter Cloudfare’s Primary DNS Server – which is 1.1.1.1
Enter Cloudfare’s Alternate (Secondary) DNS Server – 1.0.0.1
Click “Save” or “Apply” – if prompted to restart the router do so at this time.
ALL network traffic will stop during this restart.
Once your home network is restarted visit each device on your network and restart the device.
View the Network Settings on your various devices.
If your device is set to automatically get its network information (DHCP) then your DNS addresses should now be updated.
Conclusion
Switching your DNS to Cloudflare can significantly boost your internet speed, improve your security, and increase your privacy online, all with a simple, quick change. Try it today and see the difference yourself!
